India-Nepal Development Partnership: New School Building Inaugurated in Udayapur

  • Udayapur, Nepal – The newly constructed building of Shree Janata Belaka Secondary School in Udayapur, built with financial assistance from the Government of India under the Nepal-India Development Cooperation program, was officially inaugurated today. The project, completed at a total cost of NPR 37.99 million, was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Narayan Khadka, Member of Parliament, House of Representatives, Shri Prasanna Shrivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Kathmandu, and Mr. Ashok Karki, Mayor of Belaka Municipality, Udayapur. The event was attended by political representatives, government officials, and social workers.

    The school construction project was undertaken as part of India’s High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDP) initiative, aimed at fostering grassroots-level infrastructure development in Nepal. The funding provided under this initiative facilitated the construction of the new school building and essential facilities to enhance the learning environment.

    Shree Janata Belaka Secondary School: A Landmark for Education in Udayapur

    Located in Purandah, Belaka Municipality, Shree Janata Belaka Secondary School is the only secondary school in the area. Established in 1962 as a primary school, it was upgraded to a lower secondary school in 1976 and later to a higher secondary school in 2008. Currently, the school caters to around 500 students, 55% of whom are girls, providing critical access to education in the region.

    Speaking at the event, Shri Prasanna Shrivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission, Indian Embassy, Kathmandu, highlighted that the school’s construction under the HICDP program is a testament to the strong and dynamic development partnership between India and Nepal. He expressed satisfaction over the growth, expansion, and diversification of this collaboration and reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s development priorities.

    Leaders Praise India’s Development Support in Nepal

    Dr. Narayan Khadka, along with local leaders, expressed appreciation for India’s continued developmental assistance to Nepal. They emphasized that the new school building will significantly improve educational opportunities for students in Udayapur. The improved infrastructure is expected to create a better learning environment and contribute to the overall development of the education sector in Nepal’s eastern region.
